Learning Outcome 2
In Project 2, I pulled from two different texts to make my point. The first text was “Technophilia” by Kevin Kelly, and the second text was “Is Google Making Us Stupid?” by Nicholas Carr. The best example that demonstrates my ability to select, integrate, and explain quotations comes from the first quote of the first paragraph, which was pulled from Kevin Kelly’s “Technophilia”. To introduce the quote, I explained how sometimes it feels as though a part of you is missing, almost like a part of you was amputated when you lose your phone. I then posed the question, “What if our phones are not just an ‘amputated part’ of us, but also the surgeon performing the amputation?” which then led directly into the quote from Kelly talking about a girl who had her phone taken away and became physically ill. After the quote, I took what Kelly said, expanded on it, and put it in conversation with the question that I asked earlier. By using the quote from Kelly, I was able to form a completely new perspective that aligned with the existing argument, and expand upon why and how this perspective makes sense by pulling thoughts directly from Kelly and mixing them with my own, giving the reader a new idea to ponder.
